Arcade Fire’s Official Anton-Corbijn-Directed ‘Reflektor’ Video Is Here, and It’s Shiny
Indie-rock royals reveal fresh single's exhaustively teased music video
Arcade Fire have released the official music video for their new “Reflektor” single. Despite hints that the song and clip wouldn’t be revealed until 9 p.m. tonight (September 9), the indie titans shared the video several hours early. Directed by filmmaker Anton Corbijn, the eight-minute epic complements the song’s darkly disco grooves with an onslaught of shiny and, uh, reflection-heavy visuals that shed some light on the black-and-white piece. The clip, which recalls the urgent pace of a heist movie, also revives the creepy bobbleheads the Canadian crew donned around the time of their interactive “Sprawl II” video. Sadly, backup vocalist David Bowie never pops out of that disco ball.
The just-unveiled video follows a flood of news related to Arcade Fire’s upcoming fourth album. Earlier today, SPIN reported that the cover art for Reflektor had been spotted online; that reveal came along with rumors of (another?) salsa-club live show and the suggestion that the LP will be a double album consisting of 13 tracks. It was also confirmed that the band will promote the successor to 2010’s The Suburbs by performing on the September 28 season premiere of Saturday Night Live.
What’s more, Arcade Fire already shared one video for “Reflektor” today: An interactive short directed by regular collaborator Vincent Morisset. Soon afterwards, the Creators Project debuted their own enigmatic clip teasing something related to Reflektor.
Reflektor, one of SPIN’s 50 Fall Albums You Gotta Hear, is set to arrive on October 29 via Merge Records.
