Hear Lucy Dacus Cover Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark”

Lucy Dacus has released a cover of “Dancing in the Dark” in honor of Bruce Springsteen‘s birthday later this month. It’s the fourth installment of her 2019 holiday series, which began with a cover of “La Vie En Rose” back in January (for Valentine’s Day) and continued with the original songs “My Mother & I” (for Mother’s Day) and “Forever Half Mast” (for July 4).

“Happy birthday to Bruce,” said Dacus in a statement. “But also happy birthday to my dad, the biggest Bruce fan I know and the reason I’ve listened to The Boss since birth. I resisted it when I was younger as a rebellion to my dad’s taste, but I have come to love his music on my own time. His lyricism is embedded in my own songwriting inextricably at this point.”

Dacus is planning on putting out three more tracks (for Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s), all of which will eventually be compiled on a physical EP. 2019 will be her first project since last year’s Historian; “Night Shift,” a highlight from that album, made it onto our list of the 101 best songs of 2018. Check out Dacus’ cover of “Dancing in the Dark” and revisit Springteen’s original version below.
