Just as singer Dave Gahan told SPIN in May, electro icons Depeche Mode will head out on the road in 2013 in support of a new album, the band confirmed at a press conference in Paris on Tuesday (October 23). Thirty-four stops have been announced so far, kicking off in Tel Aviv, Israel on May 7 and concluding in Minsk, Belarus on July 29, with a North American tour to follow. Members Gahan, Martin Gore, and Andy Fletcher also premiered an untitled track off the group's as-yet-untitled 13th studio release. (Despite speculation of his prodigal return, Violator-era former member Alan Wilder wasn't in the house.)

Gore described the upcoming follow-up to 2009's Sounds of the Universe as a mix between two of their most beloved releases. "It's got a bit of a feel of Violator on some of the songs and a feel of Songs of Faith and Devotion on other songs," he said. "It's a bit of a hybrid of those two for me." He later added, "I am very happy with the new album and I think there are at least three or four songs that are up there with the very best that we've done."

The brooding new track is rife with the gloomy buzz and twitches that are Depeche Mode's hallmark. "The angel of love was upon me / And lord, I felt so small," Gahan near-growls. "The legs beneath me weakened / I began to crawl."

Recording sessions for the new LP finished last week and yielded 20 songs, some of which will appear as B-sides. The full-length is earmarked for spring 2013. See the full press conference and tour dates below.
