South By Southwest’s annual music extravaganza is currently underway — the party runs through March 17 — and SPIN already tipped you off to the festival’s 40 Must-See Acts, and yet here’s another: Rolling Stone reports that the Smashing Pumpkins are playing Red Bull’s Sound Select: 120 Hours showcase on March 16.
The gig’s exact downtown Austin venue has not yet been announced and won’t be confirmed until the morning of the show. Fans should keep an eye on the @RBSoundSelect Twitter handle for more information. The Sword, Ringo Deathstarr, and Girl in a Coma are also on the bill, and tickets will be free.
Billy Corgan’s Oceania outfit is just the latest big-name addition to SXSW’s 2013 lineup, following Prince (who is also booked for a March 16 performance), Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players, Justin Timberlake, Iggy and the Stooges, and more.
