Facebook's stock hit an all-time high yesterday, but it's also a bullish time for songs that grapple with the social-media reality in compelling ways. St. Vincent's brassy "Digital Witness," from February 25 album St. Vincent via Loma Vista, is a shining example, and since then we've also heard Damon Albarn's breathtaking "Everyday Robots" and EMA's surveillance-staticking "Satellites." Turn on director Chino Moya's "Digital Witness" video, and it looks just like a window into Annie Clark's anxious vision, all conformist synchronization and dystopian austerity. And if none of that interests you, there's Clark's magnificent new finger-in-socket shock of white hair. If the cops (or Mark Zuckerberg) come calling, watching this will have made us all digital witnesses to her questioning communique.
