Preview Dave Grohl and Zac Brown Band’s EP-Sized Bromance

Dave Grohl Zac Brown Band Sessions EP Vol. 1 Video

Dave Grohl and Grammy-winning country kings Zac Brown Band are releasing a collaborative EP on December 10. The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1 will comprise four songs — three originals, and a cover of Wood Brothers’ “The Muse” — and precedes a second EP and a documentary in 2014. “I don’t know how I tricked him into working with us, but it’s really cool,” Brown charmingly told Billboard. In the clip above, Grohl says each challenges the other to be “more and more badass.”

Despite Grohl’s status as a SPIN-covering, Nirvana-drumming, Foo Fighters-fronting rock’n’roll hero and ZBB’s massive popularity with, like, the United States of America, this meeting of the minds happened organically. While picking up his Grammys outfit at a John Varvatos store in West Hollywood, Brown bumped into Grohl. The latter wasn’t familiar with the former, but they shared an interest in analog equipment. Then Grohl wound up sitting behind Brown at the Grammys.

The pair kept in touch and in early November, Grohl flew out to Nashville to record with the band. As it turns out, they were mid-recording when the Sound City guru appeared with Zac Brown Band at the Country Music Awards to perform their new song “Day of the Dead.” In his Billboard chat, Brown shouts out Grohl’s “street cred and energy.” Above, Grohl says the band’s decision to name the EP after him is “the most flattering thing anyone has ever done for me.”

This Thanksgiving, we are thankful for bromance.
