Pelican’s ‘Lathe Biosas’ Video Is a Freaky Fever Dream

Pelican 'Lathe Biosas' Video Forever Becoming

When SPIN visited Pelican in the studio this year, guitarist Trevor de Brauw said that the post-metal destroyers are “tighter than we have been, more locked in.” That, of course, was in service of the Chicago band’s next proper album, Forever Becoming, due out October 15 on Southern Lord. Before that apparently more narrative-based set arrives however, fans can feast on the five-song Deny the Absolute EP (on iTunes now), which takes its name from a heavy ripper included therein. Also in the mix: “Lathe Biosas,” which we originally heard as part of the 2012 Ataraxia/Taraxis EP.

In honor of the song’s second life, it’s now got a video directed by Diona Mavis and starring Mark Thompson, the co-owner of the beloved Hydra Head Records imprint which folded in September. In the disturbing clip, our host puts the record on in his headphones and is transported to a better place where Pelican plays only to him. But thing things take a turn for the worst, as nightmarish things begin to happen around him. Crawl through the muck with Thompson and the band above, courtesy of Prefix.
