Everyone Will Honor Bruce Springsteen at Star-Studded Grammy Tribute
Neil Young, Eddie Vedder, Tom Morello, Alabama Shakes, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith, and more
Neil Young, Mumford & Sons, Eddie Vedder, Tom Morello, and more will all give the Boss his due for the 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute concert honoring Bruce Springsteen on February 8, the Recording Academy announced today (January 2).
This year’s edition of the annual ceremony will be hosted by Daily Show anchor Jon Stewart and will feature performances from all the aforementioned artists, plus Alabama Shakes, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Elton John, Sting, Kenny Chesney, Ben Harper, Faith Hill, Juanes, John Legend, Natalie Maines, Tim McGraw, and Mavis Staples.
Already a 20-time Grammy winner, Springsteen was selected as the MusiCares Person of the Year because of his “extraordinary creative accomplishments as well as his significant charity work,” which includes last month’s performance at the millions-raising Hurricane Sandy benefit, 12-12-12. “Bruce Springsteen is a truly gifted and Renaissance artist of our time, a national treasure, and an exemplary humanitarian,” Academy president and CEO Neil Portnow said last June when the blue-collar raconteur was chosen as the 2013 recipient. “His career is a testament to the power of creative excellence, and his contributions as a philanthropist speak to the tenacity of the human spirit.”
Aside from the all-star lineup, the sold out Person of the Year gala will include a silent auction sponsored by the Starkey Hearing Foundation that will let guests bid on “an exclusive and unparalleled selection of luxury items, VIP experiences, and one-of-a-kind celebrity memorabilia,” and a live auction offering a customized Acura RLX. Proceeds from the Los Angeles Convention Center event will go toward MusiCares, which provides musicians with emergency financial assistance for living and medical expenses, ranging from rent and car payments to addiction recovery and HIV/AIDS treatment. Past MusiCares Person of the Year honorees include Springsteen’s fellow 12-12-12 alum Paul McCartney, as well as Bono, Barbra Streisand, Quincy Jones, Brian Wilson, and Aretha Franklin. Neil Young, Sting, and Elton John have also received the award.
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will broadcast live on CBS from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Sunday, February 10 at 8 p.m. EST.
