The last team-up between Montreal’s most tongue-in-cheek techno DJ Tiga and the continually traveling Matthew Dear’s Audion alias, 2013’s electric “Let’s Go Dancing,” was so irresistible that a full, eclectic lineup of producers — Stockholm’s Adam Beyer, Diynamic label head Solomun, “Jack” mastermind Breach, and U.K. bass-ist Eats Everything — couldn’t help but put their own wildly divergent spins on it.
On their latest joint effort, Audion undergirds “Make Me Fall In Love,” a minimally glossy plea off of Tiga’s forthcoming LP, No Fantasy Required, with hard-charging propulsion. All sizzling FX and syncopated clapbacks, Dear’s “Pop Version” will doubtless inspire more of his peers to see if they can outdo them once again (spoiler alert: unlikely).
