Nearly a year after his death, XXXTentacion remains just as polarizing as he is popular.
In June 2018, the controversial rapper was shot and murdered in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He had been awaiting trial on multiple domestic abuse charges, including aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend. A secret tape surfaced in October that showed the artist admitting to domestic abuse.
Following his death, XXXTentacion’s single “SAD!” shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He became the first leading artist to top the Hot 100 posthumously since The Notorious B.I.G. (“Mo Money Mo Problems” in 1997).
