After releasing music that’s actually pretty amazing, Childish Gambino is hitting us with another surprise: a “virtual reality vinyl.” His upcoming LP, “Awaken, My Love!” (which is the followup to 2013’s Because the Internet), will be available in a format that hardly anyone knew was a thing.
Gambino’s website says the album comes on two 45 RPM heavyweight 12″ vinyl records with an exclusive 17 x 11 poster—what exactly makes those records “virtual reality vinyl” is unclear at this moment. The package is currently priced at $59.99 but that is subject to change as its contents are finalized. The delivery date is sometime in 2017.
Also, Gambino’s PHAROS Earth app has been updated with VR concert footage of him performing Awaken‘s “Me and Your Mama” back in September. The rapper-turned-funkadelian performed a number of new tracks at the PHAROS shows.
“Awaken, My Love!” is set to drop this Friday.
