As we noted back in May, Spoon revealed they were working on a new album, sharing a bunch of Spoon-sounding song titles like “The Rent I Pay,” “Naff Bag,” “Millionaires,” and “Fresh From Your Pages.” Now, as Stereogum reports, the Austin rockers are less than a week away from finishing the follow-up to 2010’s Transference and they’ve shared a 26-second video preview of one of the new tracks. It’s an acoustic-based mid-tempo cut interspersed with abrasive guitar hits that nearly drown out Britt Daniel’s vocals. Almost a year ago, he told SPIN’s Marc Hogan that the new songs had “more soul” and R&B to them, though we’d hardly place this snippet into either of those genres. Check it out above and stay tuned for more news on Spoon’s first LP in four years.
