Death Cab for Cutie Announce New Album and Tour

Death Cab for Cutie have announced a new album and headlining U.S. tour. The as-yet-untitled record will be the first for the long-running indie pop band without founding guitarist and producer Chris Walla, and will arrive in August 2018 according to a new teaser video.

Death Cab’s last album was 2015’s Kintsugi, after which Walla announced his departure to continue making music and producing for other artists. Since then, frontman Ben Gibbard has covered Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque in its entirety, and his band released a one-off anti-Trump tune called “Million Dollar Loan” as part of the 30 Days, 30 Songs series. Touring members Dave Depper and Zac Rae will join Death Cab in the studio for the first time on the new album, according to a release.

The teaser video features a snippet of new music, led by spacey Rhodes piano and driving drums. See the video below and Death Cab’s tour dates after that.
