As promised earlier today, Jay Z held a press conference this afternoon to launch the streaming music service Tidal, which was previewed with a star-studded trailer that featured Madonna, Daft Punk, Beyoncé, and more. Many of those artists took the stage at Monday’s event — Jack White, Alicia Keys, Kanye West all showed up to support Hova and his newest venture — before Keys announced that Tidal would be “the first-ever artist owned global music entertainment platform.”

Jay Z also offered up a few more details in a follow-up interview with the New York Times. All the stars also signed some sort of declaration of their intentions, though how Calvin Harris and Chris Martin offered their signatures via Skype is currently unclear.

As part of the rollout, Tidal announced that it’d purchased the exclusive streaming rights of Rihanna’s new single, “Bitch Better Have My Money,” as well as a limited edition subscibers-only Beyoncé t-shirt featuring the lyrics “Nine to five to stay alive,” taken from her Beyoncé cut “Haunted/Ghost.” Watch the Tidal mission statement of sorts below.
