Spectrals Call It Quits

Spectrals quit break up louis jones

Louis Jones, the man behind throwback power-pop act Spectrals, has brought an end to the project. He abruptly announced the news earlier today (September 11) with the following tweet: “I’ve decided to quit doing music as Spectrals. All upcoming shows are cancelled…”

No reason has been given for the decision, but when Jones posted the same message on Facebook later, he added “Thank you!” followed by a smile emoticon. The only other constant person in the band was Jones’ brother Will, who played drums.

Jones started Spectrals in 2009 in Yorkshire, England, with Will joining before they relesed their first album, 2011’s acclaimed Bad Penny. They toured with Cults, Real Estate, Best Coast, the Cribs, and Girls before returning to the studio to work on Sob Story, out last June. That album was produced by Girls’ Chet “JR” White and featured the Big Star-influenced track “A Heartbeat Behind,” which SPIN premiered last April.
