How to Destroy Angels, the new project from Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor and his wife, ex-West Indian Girl singer Mariqueen Maandig, just released their debut EP for free — but that’s just a preview of what’s to come: the band is currently working on an upcoming full-length album!
In a post to the band’s Tumblr account, Reznor explained that How to Destroy Angels’ upcoming full-length, which he says will arrive in early 2011, will hone the sound of their EP.
“This EP is an artifact of the very first experiments we tried together,” he wrote. “We were going to wait until we had a large batch of songs and then distill things down from there, but we liked this first collection and decided to release them. I would expect the next release to sound a bit more focused as we discover more about our combined chemistry.”
The group — also featuring longtime NIN collaborator Atticus Ross — recently released their first music video: a gruesome clip for “The Space in Between,” featuring Reznor and his wifey lying face down in a pool of their own blood… and then being set ablaze. Watch it here.
In other Reznor news, the rock vet recently wrote and recorded the theme song for Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto’s film Tetsuo: The Bullet Man. Download or listen to the song here. And Reznor is planning new NIN material in the near future, too: In December 2009, just months after his band’s final concert, he wrote, “2010 has a number of things planned including new material from Nine Inch Nails…. I am in a state of rediscovery and reinvention that feels unfamiliar, unsure and exactly what I need.”
