  • Lostprophets Ian Watkins Appeal Child Sex Abuse Sentence

Lostprophets Pedophile Ian Watkins Asks for a Shorter Sentence

Convicted pedophile and former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins is attempting to shorten the length of his 35-year sentence for offenses that included the attempted rape of an infant. W.E.N.N. reports that his attorney on Tuesday filed a petition at the Court of Appeal in Wales. In December, the 36-year-old confessed to 13 crimes related to the sexual abuse of children, and was convicted alongside the unnamed mothers of two of those young victims. The women, aged 21 and 24, were sentenced to 17 years and 14 years respectively, while Watkins received a 29-year custodial term and six years on license (probation). As it stands, he'll have to serve two-thirds of the jail time before he is eligible for parole. That he would get any sort of break at this point seems offensive to even consider.

  • OFF! 'Void You Out' Stream Wasted Years Keith Morris

Hear OFF! Shred on Breakneck 'Void You Out'

With the Black Flag vs. FLAG dispute pretty much settled — popularly if not legally — the latter's leader should be feeling pleasantly footloose. And sure enough Keith Morris has reactivated his hardcore punk posse OFF! for a new album on April 8. Vice Records will release Wasted Years, a 16-track shredder featuring first taste "Void You Out." Heard below, this particular ripper blasts off with a bass bowwwww then explodes into a breakneck freak-out about getting beaten down in the land of the free. Morris, guitarist Dimitri Coats, bassist Steven McDonald, and drummer Mario Rubalcab recorded the whole set live in their Los Angeles practice space, to 8-track on 1/2-inch tape. Artist Raymond Pettibon (Black Flag, Sonic Youth) provides the cover art.Wasted Years track list:1. "Void You Out"2. "Red White and Black"3. "Legion of Evil"4. "No Easy Escape"5. "Over Our Heads"6.

  • Actress 'Rap' Stream Ghettoville Last Album

Actress Warps R&B Sensuality on 'Rap'

Enigmatic English producer Actress, a.k.a. Darren Cunningham, is on the cusp of releasing what may be his last album. Ghettoville arrives January 27 and has been described by label Werkdiscs as "the bleached out and black-tinted conclusion of the Actress image." New non-LP track "Grey Over Blue" was indeed a bleak and fuzzy proposition. But now we have "Rap" to consider, a brief but sweet song that feels surprisingly light. Over a slowed-down R&B groove, a pitch-dropped voice coos, "Wrap yourself around me." (For the record, we checked and it's not sampled from Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams.") Stream this small slice of Ghettoville below, via FACT.

  • Mast Anna Wise Red Omni Stream Album

Mast and Anna Wise Team for Jazz-Beat Bubbler 'Red'

Player/producer Mast originally hails from Philadelphia but has found his true home with the Alpha Pup Records crew in Los Angeles. The man's approach to electronic music not only incorporates a whole lot of organic sounds — it feels composed with an ear tuned to jagged jazz and dark pop, which makes him kin to folks like Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Daedelus, Ras G, and Nobody. He's also worked with RYAT, so he's plenty experienced when it comes to supporting a strong female voice. On new song "Red," Sonnymoon member and Kendrick Lamar collaborator Anna Wise ("Real") crows fantastically over a strangely fluid mass of pulsing beat, roiling piano, plucked guitar, and warm bass. It's a thing of dark beauty, and it'll be found on Mast's debut album Omni, out January 28. Check the cover art and track list below the new tune.Mast, Omni track list:1. "Hokusai2. "The Waters" (feat.

  • Com Truise 'Subsonic' Stream Wave 1 EP

Com Truise Travels Galactic Soundwaves on 'Subsonic'

Apart from being a giggle-worthy spoonerism of a certain Scientologist's name, Com Truise is the alias of Seth Haley — a New York producer who prefers to picture himself as an android astronaut while he's crafting his far-out electronic soundscapes. On February 18, he'll at last release a proper follow-up to his perfectly titled 2011 album Galactic Melt — the Wave 1 EP will arrive via Ghostly International and comprise six new songs, including the one you'll find below. "Subsonic" begins with a slow ambient build, but when that crest breaks, we're left with glistening synths, a steady thud, skittering hi-hats, and squelching bass frequencies. It's a bit Boards of Canada meets the Drive soundtrack, though this particular melding of retrofuturism and au courant production is a hallmark of Com Truise's unique touch.

  • D'Angelo Studio Footage New Album Russ Elevado Video

Preview New D'Angelo Songs 'The Charade' and 'Sugah Daddy'

Acclaimed audio engineer and producer Russell Elevado has shared studio footage from a recording session with the mighty D'Angelo, confirming that soul music's wayward king is indeed working on that new album we've been hearing whispers of since he reappeared in Stockholm two years ago. Elevado worked on the man's last album — 2000's masterful Voodoo — at New York's Electric Lady Studios. This time, they're at Henson Recording in Los Angeles. The video above is the longest of the three, and confirms the session's location.

  • Rap Genius Universal Music Publishing Lyrics Licensing Deal

Rap Genius Gets Less Illegal, Licenses Universal Music's Lyrics

The folks over at lyrics hub Rap Genius have made another step toward, ahem, doing it all legal. Co-founder Ilan Zechory announced his company's new partnership with Universal Music Publishing Group — a "licensing arrangement" that will allow the website to continue posting the words of songs written by the publisher's hulking roster. In November, the National Music Publishers Association dubbed Rap Genius' unlicensed lyrics-posting as "blatantly illegal." They made good with Sony days later."We love UMPG!" wrote Zechory via statement. "They have a truly incredible stable of writers — we will lend them a wheelbarrow for the Grammys they are about to win! Rap Genius lets UMPG's writers connect with their most obsessed fans, and we couldn't be more excited about solidifying this partnership."Rap Genius, of course, is more than your standard, low-rent, spam-bloated lyrics site.

  • Black Lips 'Boys in the Wood' NSFW Video ATL Twins

See Black Lips' Super NSFW 'Boys in the Wood' Video Directed by the ATL Twins

Black Lips have a new video and it's about as NSFW as you can get. No surprise considering the thing is directed by the ATL Twins (of Spring Breakers fame) and Matt Swinsky, who's positioned himself as the documentary lover's Harmony Korine. For the above "Boys in the Wood" clip, that trio wrangles a team of professional dirtbags to do what they do best: piss on each other, fight like caged animals, freebase all kinds of poisons, and even stage scenes of murder and rape. The Lips' Jared Swilley is the victim of that latter brutality, though he reappears later fully clothed to smash his guitar from within a blazing fire.

  • White Hinterland Ring the Bell Stream Baby Album

White Hinterland Returns With Ecstatic 'Ring the Bell'

After a four-year absence, White Hinterland returns with Baby. Portland-based Casey Dienel will release her new album via Dead Oceans on April 1, and the label promises that she's moved away from the more ambient bent of her 2010 set Kairos. These 10 songs are about "facing your fears [and] being bold," which seems about right when you hear the set's excellent first taste, "Ring the Bell." The lush new song is poppy and heady, recalling Dirty Projectors and Haim with a few melismatic Mariah Carey-style vocal flutters thrown in for good measure. Listen to that above and check out the track list, album art, and some tour dates below. Contributors to Baby include Bon Iver's Sean Carey, Neal Morgan (Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan), and Cole Kamen-Green, who worked on Beyoncé's 4.White Hinterland, Baby track list:1. "Wait Until Dark"2. "Dry Mind"3. "Ring the Bell"4. "David"5. "Baby"6.

  • Bruce Springsteen High Hopes Billboard Charts Switchfoot

Bruce Springsteen's 'High Hopes' Rewarded With No. 1 Album

First! The Boss is back. Bruce Springsteen triumphantly scores his 11th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with High Hopes, an album that was aptly named. The Jersey boy now pulls ahead of Elvis Presley's chart-topping record to nab third place, after the Beatles (19 No. 1 LPs) and Jay Z (13 No. 1 LPs). What's more, the heartland hero is the only artist (band or individual) to put up a No. 1 in each of the last four decades. The only bummer speaks more to the state of the record industry than the man's artistry: This is Springsteen's first album in the SoundScan era (Nielsen began tracking the numbers for Billboard in 1991) that's sold under 100,000 upon debut. High Hopes, in fact, did 99K. We blame Chris Christie for that.2 to 10: Meanwhile, the glacially robust Frozen soundtrack glides down to No. 2, pulling an additional 87K, which is two percent up from its No. 1 haul last week.
