  • Py 'Swimming Slow' Video Single

Py Soundtracks Bummer Valentine's in 'Swimming Slow' Video

London's Py is blessed with a deeply soulful coo and an ear for richly produced bass music that matches the mood. Her forthcoming single "Swimming Slow" encapsulates that dynamic, with producer Starsmith providing a swirling storm of downbeat snaps and swells over which our hostess sings, "If I found it, would it be the right fit? / I have grown." The sentiment is echoed in the video above, in which a spurned lover stalks the city streets at night in search of some catharsis. Py eventually provides that via a very unlikely venue, as a general Only God Forgives vibe prevails. "Swimmingly Slow" gets an official release on March 10 via MTDL_RCRDS (via Madtech/Champion), and will come backed with remixes by Citizen, Sweater Beats, Gang Colours, and Throwing Snow.

  • Super Bowl XLVIII Music Bruno Mars, RHCP, Queen Latifah, Muppets, Beats

Super Bowl XLVIII Music Cheat Sheet: Bruno Mars, RHCP, Queen Latifah, Muppets, and More

Super Bowl XLVIII comes to New Jersey's MetLife Stadium this Sunday, matching the Seattle Seahawks against the Denver Broncos. Since those two teams hail from the first two states in the union to legalize marijuana for recreational use, this year's Big Game has already been lovingly dubbed "Weed Bowl." Of course, if you're watching in person, that name's purely honorary (enjoy that Bud Light!). But if you're watching from the comfort of your own home ... Look, all we're saying is there's gonna be a whole bunch of music, and some really funny commercials, and SPIN's already gone through the trouble of mapping all of that out for you right here. BYO snacks.1. Halftime: Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ???Bruno Mars has long been booked to lead the official Halftime Show, and though he may be an Unorthodox choice, we suspect the man's Jukebox will be stocked with some surprises.

  • 'Go Forth, Feminist Warriors' Rookie Stream Carrie Brownstein Dum Dum Girls

Carrie Brownstein Trades Bars With Tegan & Sara on 'Go Forth, Feminist Warriors'

The ever-excellent Rookie Mag has accomplished a helluva feat — they set out to create their very own "We Are the World," and succeeded handily. The idea initially came to site editor (and SPIN contributor) Jessica Hopper mid-shower, and subsequently grew into "Go Forth, Feminist Warriors," a proud and playful pro-woman anthem that incorporates new work from (at least) 18 other contributors whose disparate voices unite for a time-honored cause: "Come together and conquer."The list includes: Carrie Brownstein, Tegan and Sara, Dee Dee Penny (Dum Dum Girls), Aimee Mann, Ted Leo, Thao Nguyen, Kimya Dawson, MNDR, Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee), Kate Nash, Psalm One, Geneviève Castrée (Woelv, Ô PAON), Storey Littleton, Suzy X. (Shady Hawkins, Bitch Magazine), and Rookie's Tavi Gevinson. The primary songwriters were Marianna Ritchey and Katy Davidson (a.k.a.

  • Miguel Big Sean Ashley Video Elton John Cover Album

Miguel Scores Elton John Cover, NSFW Video for Big Sean's 'Ashley'

Miguel is making moves to secure a huge 2014 for himself. The Los Angeles-based singer/producer is aiming to release his third album this year, and he's laying down a pretty solid, ahem, yellow-brick road ahead of that goal. Along with Beck and Jenny Lewis, he's premiering a song on the third season of HBO's Girls. There's a brand new video for his Big Sean team-up "Ashley" (above). And he's also being tapped for an Elton John cover on the reissue for, yes, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The very NSFW clip for Sean's Hall of Fame single finds the MC on a pretty terrible adventure involving sex, drugs, violence, and duct tape.

  • Franz Ferdinand Pharrell Paloma Faith Ripoff Cant Rely

Franz Ferdinand Boss Implies Pharrell Stole His Riffs for Paloma Faith's New Single

Heavy is the head that wears the gigantic hat. The hit-making, Grammy-recognized mountie otherwise known as Pharrell Williams has been accused of musical thievery once again. But while it was the Marvin Gaye estate before, using a court as their venue for complaint, this incident finds Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos firing shots on Twitter. He has implied that Pharrell stole the "Take Me Out" riff for Paloma Faith's new single "Can't Rely on You."Hey @Pharrell - I love your tunes. If you want to borrow a riff, just ask...— alex kapranos (@alkapranos) January 31, 2014When a fan responded, "Maybe you could buy him a new hat once he's paid up?," Kapranos wrote back, "Let's hope it's a hit, then. Again." He also tweeted, "Oh, by the way, I didn't 'accuse' anyone of anything. ;-)," but the implication is pretty clear.

  • Kid Rock SeaWorld Blackfish Alan Jackson Concert

Kid Rock, Alan Jackson to Play SeaWorld When No One Else Will

The acclaimed Blackfish documentary put a lot of people off from SeaWorld by holding a lens to the practice of keeping killer whales in captivity. A few of those people: Willie Nelson, the Beach Boys, Pat Benetar, Heart, Trace Adkins, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Barenaked Ladies, and 38 Special. Each pulled out of the aquatic park's Bands, Brew & BBQ concert series as a result. Good thing Kid Rock and country star Alan Jackson were around to pick up the slack.Yes, it's true, those two are perfectly willing to step right into the muck at SeaWorld Orlando this weekend, despite public outcry that previously resulted in online petitions and social media messaging campaigns calling out any artist associated with SeaWorld.

  • Aaron Paul Josh Wiggins Interview Hellion Jake Bugg Radiohead

Aaron Paul and Josh Wiggins Talk Heavy Metal, Pearl Jam, and House Shows

Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman will be with us always, but Aaron Paul has got his own life to live. In addition to being a dedicated music fan (we'll get to that), he's co-starring in Hellion, an unflashy but highly effective broken-home drama that just premiered at Sundance. Director Kat Candler casts Paul as a widower too caught up in grief to show up for his two young sons. As a result, the older brother — 15-year-old rising force Josh Wiggins — is forced to play dad when all he really wants to do is play Slayer, ride motocross, and break shit. The complexities of their relationship make the film, but it's the ease of their friendship that stands out in person. Paul and Wiggins took a break from the usual Park City movie chatter and the biting Utah cold to share a couch and talk tunes with SPIN.

  • The Megaphonic Thrift If You Shiver (Overload) Video

The Megaphonic Thrift Are Kraut-Shred Heroes in 'If You Shiver (Overload)' Video

The Megaphonic Thrift is a supergroup of sorts; they comprise four in-the-pocket players from Bergen, Norway's prolific music scene. Members from Stereo 21, Casiokids, and Low Frequency in Stereo come together here to grind out barely candied noise-rock that owes equally to the Krautrock experiments of the early '70s and the alt-rock explosion of the late '80s. Look no further than new song "If You Shiver (Overload)" for an example of what they're capable of: the bass growls, the guitars howl, and the drums snap, while Richard Myklebust and Linn Frøkedal lend their cool voices to warped harmonies and sticky melodies. The song hails from the band's forthcoming third album, but the video is its own beast.

  • The Mighty Hannibal Dead 74 Funk Soul James Shaw

The Mighty Hannibal, Funk-Soul Iconoclast, Dead at 74

The Mighty Hannibal has died. According to Norton Records founder Billy Miller, the man born James Timothy Shaw passed away on Thursday, January 30, at the age of 74. The funk-soul singer, songwriter, and producer released precious few album in his time — 1973's Truth, 1998's Who Told You That, and the 2001 Norton compilation Hannibalism — but he was influential among and beloved by his fellow musicians. His passing seems to have been quite sudden. "Very, very sad news," wrote Miller on Facebook, sharing a vintage photo of the Atlanta born, raised, and based artist wearing his signature pink turban, a blue tie, and a sharp-looking suit. "Norton Records superstar The Mighty Hannibal has passed away. We do not have the full details. He called Norton HQ this morning and was his usual upbeat self and all seemed fine. This is devastating news.

  • SXSW Film Hendrix ASAP Rocky Swedish House Mafia Movie

SXSW Films: Andre 3000 as Hendrix, A$AP Rocky, Swedish House Mafia, More

With a guestimate of 1,789,579 bands (give or take) attending Austin's South by Southwest in March, it's easy to forget that the event also includes an entire film festival. A tech one, too, but the movie lineup has just been announced, and Billboard has handily broken down the music-related films set to play. Many of them are U.S. or world premieres, including the Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000, and documentaries on A$AP Rocky and Swedish House Mafia. All Is by My Side is John Ridley's drama about the legendary guitarist — it's gotten mixed reviews outside of the States, but in light of the OutKast excitement, it can't help but be a must-see. SVDDXNLY digs into the daily grind of a certain gold-grilled Harlem MC and his A$AP Mob, with input from Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore, Snoop Dogg, Kathy Griffin, Jeremy Scott, Rihanna, and others.
