No Age Chill Out With String-Heavy 'An Impression'

Latest cut from 'An Object' is like musical Xanax, in the best way

No Age keep unveiling tracks from their upcoming album, An Object, and the latest, "An Impression," is the most surprising yet. While they deemed the album "uncomfortable," this track is two and a half minutes of pure, fuzzy warmth, mainly thanks to a gorgeous string arrangement. Singer-drummer Dean Spunt promised that he'd experiment more with the bass, and that instrument is almost the sole source of percussion throughout while guitarist Randy Randall supplies a wash of mellow feedback.

"I've gotten to the point where playing drums and signing [has become] second nature," Spunt told SPIN in June. "I could play an hour and 20 minutes and not feel tired. I accomplished it, and I didn't know what else I could do in that context. I got to the point where I felt very comfortable, and to me that started to feel slightly scary. I need to try things."

It may scare him, but "An Impression" will leave you ready for sleep filled with the sweetest of dreams. An Object is out August 20 via Sub Pop.
