Morrissey has long been an outspoken supporter of animal rights, and now he has turned his sights toward, who else, President Obama. In a letter to fan site True to You titled "Thankskilling," the former Smiths frontman blasts the annual tradition of a White House turkey pardon. In characteristically caustic fashion, he argues that Thanksgiving is cruel to turkeys, turkey is an unhealthy food, and the meat industry is a leading contributor to global warming. "And President Obama laughs," he writes, italics his, as a taunting refrain.

The Smiths' 1985 album title and song Meat Is Murder made Moz's views plain way back during the Reagan administration, but he has remained an acerbic advocate for the animals even in the past year. In February, the singer canceled an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for vegeterian reasons. Around the same time, he declared his Los Angeles concert at Staples Center would be 100 percent veggie, the venue announced he was wrong, and it turned out he was wrong. In July, Morrissey gave PETA a sizable gift "to combat the cruelty of foie gras."

In short: If you're inviting this charming man over to your Thanksgivukkah table, be sure you're serving tofurkey. In other Morrissey-related news, Rolling Stone reports his cover of Lou Reed's "Satellite of Love" is now set for release a stand-alone download on December 3. It'll arrive on vinyl and as a three-song download on January 28. Meanwhile, Morrissey's Autobiography arrives stateside on December 5. On December 11 he'll join Omar Souleyman, Mary J. Blige, James Blunt, and Jake Bugg at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo.

Please ignore the abysmal example set by President Obama who, in the name of Thanksgiving, supports torture as 45 million birds are horrifically abused; dragged through electrified stun baths, and then have their throats slit. And President Obama laughs. Haha, so funny!

As Ingrid Newkirk from PETA points out, turkey 'meat' is one of "our nation's top killers", causing heart-attacks and strokes in humans due to saturated animal fats and cholesterol. And President Obama laughs.

Further, the meat industry is responsible for 51% of human-caused greenhouse-gas emission, therefore the embarrassingly stupid White House 'turkey pardon' is open support for a viciously cruel and environmentally irresponsible industry.

And President Obama laughs.
