Morrissey plans to honor his own life story on December 5 with the release of his Autobiography‘s audiobook edition. But first, Moz will pay tribute to the late Lou Reed on December 2, when he puts out a live cover version of Reed’s “Satellite of Love.”

According to fan site True to You, Morrissey recorded his rendition of the Transformer track in Las Vegas, at the Cosmopolitan’s Chelsea Ballroom on November 25, 2011. Parlophone Records will put out the single, first as a digital download, and then as a heavyweight 12-inch vinyl and 7-inch picture disc, both supported by additional live tracks, including Moz’s own “You’re Gonna Need Someone On Your Side” (via the NME). Fans can expect the physical editions sometime in January, with more details to come.

Following Lou Reed’s death at the age of 71 on October 27, Morrissey issued a statement paying respect to the Velvet Underground co-founder: “No words to express the sadness at the death of Lou Reed. He had been there all of my life. He will always be pressed to my heart. Thank God for those, like Lou, who move within their own laws, otherwise imagine how dull the world would be. I knew the Lou of recent years and he was always full of good heart. His music will outlive time itself. We are all timebound, but today, with the loss of liberating Lou, life is a pigsty.”

Morrissey was just one of many artists to share their grief over Reed’s passing. Other touching remembrances came from John Cale, Patti Smith, David Bowie, and, of course, Reed’s widow, Laurie Anderson.

As previously reported, the audiobook version of Morrissey’s Autobiography will be read by another Morrissey: actor David Morrissey from AMC’s zombie blockbuster TV show The Walking Dead. Mozzer’s 480-page tell-all is also slated to finally hit bookshelves in the U.S. on December 3 via G.P. Putnam’s Sons
