Bikini Kill frontwoman, proto riot grrrl, and former SPIN cover star Kathleen Hanna had a busy 2013. After a decade and a half sabbatical, Hanna stormed back, starring in the documentary the Punk Singer, and unfurling the Run Fast release with her solo project the Julie Ruin. Now Hanna and her Julie Ruin bandmates have returned with "Brightside," a tune that's rife with tamborines, jangling guitars, and giddyness. Hanna still croons through her nasal passage, but her message may have softened over the years. As she sings on track's thesis: "It's just my heart that's beating / the message keeps repeating." "Brightside" will be available as an exclusive 7" on Record Store Day (April 19).
