The gentle sleeping giant that is Fleet Foxes stirs once again, via Facebook. After releasing 2011's most beautiful album, Helplessness Blues, and starring on a SPIN cover, the Seattle band seemed to kinda dissolve. There was a score for a film about LOLcats; a tweet from leader Robin Pecknold that read, "Don't start a band"; and a successful solo career launched by former member Father John Misty. But Pecknold now reveals the unexpected truth behind the time off.

"I decided to go back to school," he wrote in a Facebook post. What's more, he says he's working on new music, though is careful not to make any promises regarding scheduling. Read the entire message below. Last we saw Pecknold's far-less bearded face, he has covering Pearl Jam's "Corduroy" on Late Night Jimmy Fallon. His 2012 solo track "Olivia, in a Separate Bed" can be heard at the bottom of this post.

For anyone who's curious, this is a short Fleet Foxes update — been a while! So, after the last round of touring, I decided to go back to school. I never got an undergraduate degree, and this felt like the right time to both see what that was about and to try something new after a while in the touring / recording lifestyle. I moved to New York and enrolled at Columbia, and I've mostly been doing that, but I'm working on songs and excited for whatever happens next musically, even if it's down the line. Hope all is well out there. Best, Robin
