Complete Coverage: Nirvana's 'Nevermind' Turns 20

On September 24, 1991, Nirvana released Nevermind, an album that not only changed music, but altered the culture in ways that still resonate today. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the blockbuster LP, SPIN has created a package of rare photos, smart writing, and free music dedicated to Kurt, Dave, and Krist. It includes:

-Candid pics of Kurt and Courtney at home

-Dave Grohl, Eddie Vedder, Wayne Coyne, and dozens more on what 'Nevermind' means today

-A free tribute album featuring the Meat Puppets, EMA, Telekinesis, the Vaselines, and others

And here's a look at some other commemorative events happening around the country:Most prominent is the deluxe reissue of Nevermind by Nirvana's label Universal. Due out on September 27, the multi-format set features B-sides, alternate mixes, live recordings, and studio rarities. Watch previously unreleased live footage from the reissue here, and listen to some of the previously unreleased tracks here.

Friday night at 11 P.M., VH1 will broadcast Kurt Cobain and Co.'s 1991 Halloween show at the Paramount Theatre in the Seattle. (A DVD of the show will be included in the reissue and sold separately.)

Saturday night, much of the action will happen on satellite radio. The Daily Show's Jon Stewart will sit down with the two surviving band members -- Grohl and Krist Novoselic -- and the album's producer Butch Vig for a two-hour "Town Hall"-style interview. Their discussion wil be broadcast at 8:00 P.M. EST on Sirius XM's Lithium channel. Available on channel 34, Lithium will feature music from throughout Nirvana's career, including B-sides, rarities, and live cuts.

Earlier this week, Novoselic led a Nevermind tribute show in Seattle. Meanwhile, Vig joined NPR's Morning Edition for an interview, which you can listen to here here.
