A Tribe Called Quest Tease Retirement After Kanye West Gigs

Q-Tip says two 'Yeezus' shows in New York City will be group's "final" performances

A Tribe Called Quest will serve as the opening act for two shows on Kanye West's fast-approaching Yeezus tour. That's a noteworthy pairing in and of itself, but the upcoming gigs have taken on some extra heft now that Q-Tip has hinted they'll be his group's last-ever performances. "In August, ATCQ did our last show FOR Cali," Tip tweeted on Wednesday (via Consequence of Sound). "It's only right we do our FINAL 2 joints where we started... NYC."

The Queens crew will take the stage at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on November 20 and then check their rhimes at Madison Square Garden on November 24. Tribe first started kicking it in 1985, and then went on to release five studio albums, two of which (1991's The Low End Theory and 1993's Midnight Marauders) are part of the hip-hop canon. The Native Tongues visionaries eventually split in 1998, but they've reunited several times since, so it's unclear how final "FINAL" means to Q-Tip at this point. Still, the threat remains that this might be Tribe's last "Excursion."

Kanye's Yeezus tour begins October 19 with a show booked for the Key Arena in Seattle. Kendrick Lamar is performing as the first act for most of the engagements, and he's apparently brainstorming with Flying Lotus on an "amazing" set, as FlyLo put it recently. West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy compatriot Pusha T will open up an October 25 date at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Find the full slate of tour dates below.
