Bon Iver Share Aching ‘Heavenly Father,’ Thanks to Zach Braff
Track hails from the 'Wish I Was Here' Soundtrack due July 15
After a couple of years spent on other projects, former SPIN cover star Justin Vernon has revived his Bon Iver moniker with “Heavenly Father,” a new track written for Zach Braff’s new film, Wish I Was Here.
Late last year, Vernon said there were no plans in the works for new Bon Iver material, and that his experimentally minded band Volcano Choir was “where [his] heart [was] at.” Though “Heavenly Father” emerges under the banner of Bon Iver, that statement seems to still mostly hold true. Built around a swooning vocal sample and some skittering percussion, this new track holds tight to the electronic inclinations of Volcano Choir, while making room for a typically pained Vernon vocal. If nothing else, “Heavenly Father,” which premiered today at NPR, seems to beg for a full-fledged return to his Grammy-winning gig.
