Bishop Nehru, 16, Out-Raps His Peers in Bloody ‘Fickle Mind$’ Video

Let’s get this out of the way: Despite resembling Earl Sweatshirt thanks to the bucket hat and baby face, the rapper that Bishop Nehru most resembles is fellow New Yorker Joey Bada$$. Both throw back explicitly to rap of the 1990s and on his new track “Fickle Mind$,” this 16-year-old MC even mumbles the antiquated phrase “word is bond,” which just so happens to be the name of JB’s most recent song.

But Nehru — whose winter mixtape Nehruvia is streaming below — is less forceful than his neighbor. “Fickle Mind$” is warm, laid-back, and mostly unconcerned with anything of import. Which is fine, because he’s 16 and, well, “If word is bond / I’d rather bond with vapor from bongs.” The self-directed clip for the wordy track is a bit more showy, unravelling a temporally jumbled narrative and wrapping up with a twist.

Readers in the U.K. (and those with stockpiled frequent flyer miles) can catch Bishop opening for the Wu-Tang Clan on July 25 and 26 in London and Manchester, respectively.
