Larry Gus Shares a Sweet Organ Ditty, ‘A Set of Replies’

The Greek producer's sophomore LP for DFA arrives October 2

Greek producer Larry Gus, a.k.a. Panagiotis Melidis — and, while we’re at it, Greek for “larynx” — has been quietly putting out charmingly eclectic electro-pop on storied Brooklyn label DFA for a few years now — at least, long enough for a documentary to be made about the technically-trained musician. “A Set of Replies” is the second listen off his second LP, I Need New Eyes (out October 2), and like the lead single it’s another charming ramble, this time through kitchen-sink synth territory previously occupied by indie stalwarts like Wolf Parade or the Arcade Fire. Staccato guitar riffs punctuate the gently humming organ laying a soothing backdrop for his husky voice singing “Not without a fight,” before he kicks it up a notch into what sounds like his native language in the chorus.
