It’s no secret that Pharrell Williams has friends in high places, but with last night’s performance out in Indio, Pharrell seems to have (unbelievably) outdone the diverse cast of guests that he brought for his weekend one set at Coachella. While last week featured cameos from Gwen Stefani, Nelly, and Snoop Dogg, Pharrell somehow stepped it up a notch. According to Billboard, he brought out T.I. for his verse on “Blurred Lines,” Pusha T for a rendition of Clipse’s “Grindin’,” and Usher for the Pharrell-penned “U Don’t Have to Call.” Busta Rhymes, performing “Pass the Courvoisier, Part II,” was the set’s only repeat appearance.
All of those bit parts were trumped, however, by an extended sit-in from Jay Z who joined Pharrell for “Frontin’,” “Excuse Me Miss,” “La La La (Excuse Me Miss Again),” and “I Just Wanna Love U (Give it 2 Me).” Video from that portion of the set is above, and clips of the rest are below.
Jay Z also appeared with Nas at Coachella last week for versions of “Dead Presidents” and “Where I’m From.” He didn’t reprise that performance last night despite showing up about 30 minutes earlier on the same stage.
