Watch Beyonce Lead Feminist Campaign Against the Word ‘Bossy’

Beyonce, "ban bossy," video, feminist, lean in, Sheryl Sandberg, jennifer garner, jane lynch

Beyoncé has once again proudly embraced the mantle of feminism, this time letting us know who’s in charge (who do you think?). On her virtually flawless late-2013 surprise album Beyoncé, the singer sampled a feminist TED talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and earlier this year Queen Bey wrote an op-ed arguing for gender equality in the workplace. Now she has joined Jennifer Garner, Jane Lynch, Condoleezza Rice, and Diane von Furstenberg in a video for Facebook exec Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In Foundation. It may come as unfortunate news to Kelis fans, but the campaign is for a ban on the word “bossy,” which tends to be an insult used to dissuade women from taking leadership roles (ask Tina Fey about it).  “I’m not bossy,” ‘Yoncé declares at the end. “I’m the boss.” Respect that, and bow down — or, at the very least, think twice next time before calling someone bossy.
