Pearl Jam’s Lightning Bolt doesn’t just bring the thunder — it’s also brought us a star-studded promotional campaign. A few weeks ago, photographer/filmmaker Danny Clinch shared a mini-documentary that features the grunge icons discussing their latest album with director Judd Apatow, former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason, champion surfer Mark “MR” Richards, and Carrie Brownstein of Portlandia/Wild Flag fame. Since then, PJ have peeled off a few extended clips shot during the making of said short film. We’ve seen Eddie Vedder talk about parenting and religion with Apatow, and also caught Brownstein directing questions to the band at large (minus Vedder) about their creative process. Now comes another bit of footage that casts the Sleater-Kinney survivor in the role of journalist.
The above six-minute video covers some of the same ground seen previously (the first three minutes or so are identical to the first few in this clip), but also highlights completely new territory, thanks to the magic of post-production editing. Watch the entire segment to see Brownstein talk with members of Pearl Jam about remaining urgent and vital after more than 20 years of making music, followed by a quick chat that focuses on Lightning Bolt‘s tender second single, “Sirens.”
