If Drake’s “5AM in Toronto” is a shot at former collaborator the Weeknd, as has been widely suggested, then the video for this impeccably woozy, no-hooks shit-talker could hardly be more brutally dismissive. The scientifically proven third-hottest MC in the game treats his latest visuals as another chance to demonstrate he’s too busy to care; shaky camera work shows a casual night out drinking beer, smoking, chatting nonchalantly with an intimidating-looking pal, and watching beach volleyball in the wee small hours (“Sinatra lifestyle, I’m just being frank with you”). It could hardly be a starker contrast to dark-R&B maestro the Weeknd’s auto-signed, old-Drake imagery of joylessly decadent nights. “I ain’t lyin’, my nigga, my time is money,” Drake raps, “That’s why I ain’t got time for a nigga who’s time is comin’.” It looks like he barely has time to lip-sync, let alone make a video, but he has plenty of time for a casual night that ends with a gratuitous bikini booty-shake. Being Drake is the best revenge.
