Despite the band being from Portland, Oregon, Chromatics’ music plays like a high fashion European dream — Teutonic-toned iciness combined with Italian Disco heat — so it’s no wonder the quartet was invited by Karl Lagerfeld to play Chanel’s Parisian runway show in early October. The video for new song “Looking for Love” captures Chromatics at France’s Grand Palais, perfectly at home perched above the endless stream of models and photographers. At five minutes, this is a much-abridged version of the synth-pop epic, which will run a whopping 17 minutes on the upcoming After Dark 2 compilation out via Italians Do It Better. The label’s go-to videographer Alberto Rossini directs, giving this very recent footage an undeniably vintage feel. Chromatics recently issued their SPIN-reviewed March album Kill For Love on vinyl.
