Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction Plan Tour

In a post on his band’s website, Trent Reznor announced that Nine Inch Nails will hit the road with reunited SoCal rockers Jane’s Addiction later this year — and that it may be NIN’s last tour for the foreseeable future.

“I’ve been thinking for some time now it’s time to make NIN disappear for a while,” Reznor wrote, before explaining that the upcoming shows will be “much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted” than last year’s elaborate Lights in the Sky tour.

Dates for the upcoming tour have yet to be announced.

In the post, Reznor said the upcoming jaunt was inspired by the original Lollapalooza in 1991, which was headlined by Jane’s Addiction.

“[Those] performances essentially created and defined the term ‘alternative’ rock in the U.S., created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend — truly the best times I’ve had,” he wrote.

Jane’s Addiction has been playing intimate club shows in Los Angeles since last spring, when they reunited with original bassist Eric Avery. They have also been spending time in the studio with Reznor.

“Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we’re in the studio experimenting,” Reznor wrote. “We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first-hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they’re in the same room.”

Details about an upcoming release have yet to be announced.

Nine Inch Nails are currently on a tour of Australia. Their only scheduled U.S. performance is at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, June 11-14.
