Superchunk Bassist Laura Ballance Suffers Hearing Problem, Sits Out Tour
Superchunk will embark on a 14-date North American tour this summer in support of I Hate Music — the indie vets' 10th studio effort, due August 20 via Merge — but the Chapel Hill legends will be one bandmember short. Bassist Laura Ballance announced today (May 16) that she will not be joining Mac McCaughan, Jon Wurster, and Jim Wilbur on the road because she suffers from hyperacusis, a condition marked by an oversensitivity to certain ranges of sound. In a note posted on Superchunk's website, Ballance described the disorder as being akin to hearing loss."I have found that playing rock shows for the last couple of years has worsened my condition and I have made the difficult decision not to go out on the road with Superchunk for the upcoming campaign for I Hate Music," she wrote. "And it's not because I hate music.

Stream Shark Week's Heartbroken Galloper 'Go West'
Shark Week's upcoming Santurce 7-inch takes its name from a neighborhood in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which is where the Washington, D.C. foursome recorded the double-sided single. But "Go West," one of two tracks included on that July 30 release, owes more to, well, the Wild West than the Island of Enchantment. The galloping track confidently strides over gruff percussion, fatalist lyrics, and taut guitar licks that wouldn't be out of place in a Sergio Leone pastiche piece. Stream "Go West" down below and pre-order the Santurce 7-inch, out via Analog Edition Records, here.113647:song:Go West:

Stream Ex-Harvey Danger Frontman Sean Nelson's Springy 'Born Without a Heart'
Sean Nelson, former frontman for Harvey Danger, may be best known for the now-defunct group's deathless anti-anthem, "Flagpole Sitta." Funny then that "Born Without a Heart," the second single from the singer-songwriter's upcoming solo debut album, is so concerned with mortality. "I know that we all die alone and afraid," Nelson sings over springy, chiming melodies. "We might be soldiers on a long march to the grave." Just when things seem hopeless, though, the Seattle tunesmith surprises with a last-minute fit of optimism, reminding us, "But we don't have to live that way."113705:song:Born Without A Heart:

Fuck Buttons Push 'Very Alien' New Album 'Slow Focus'
It's been four years since Fuck Buttons' last LP, Tarot Sport, but the aggro-electronic duo will return on July 23 with their third album, Slow Focus, arriving via ATP Recordings. According to the announcement, the LP is the first self-produced effort from members Benjamin John Power and Andrew Hung. "We've used producers as safety nets in the past," Hung said. "But we've always had a very specific idea of what our music should sound like and so it became about following the logical path."Power added, "Slow Focus seemed like a very apt title when considering the sentiment of the music." He continued, "It almost feels like the moment your eyes take to readjust when waking, and realizing you're in a very unusual and not a particularly welcoming place.

Auction Winner Bails on Exorbitant Boards of Canada Record Store Day Vinyl
SPIN reported last week that the mysterious Boards of Canada 12-inch that surfaced on Record Store Day was sold on eBay for $5,700. Well, turns out the bidders who won the ultra-rare vinyl have refused to pay up, so the disc is now back up on eBay, but this time with a fixed "Buy It Now" price of (you guessed it) $5,700. Fans can also try making an offer. The owner writes on eBay: "this record was up for auction last week, but due to non-paying bidders, i am using a "buy it now" listing w/ a best offer option... the acutal vinyl is flawless as is the sleeve aside from one tiny dent on one of the corners (as pictured)... the record is in the exact condition it was found in." This surprise release launched a promotional campaign for Boards of Canada's first album in eight years, Tomorrow's Harvest.

This year's edition will take place at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto.
