The xx's first single from upcoming album Coexist, due out on September 11 via Young Turks, began as a solo demo by singer-guitarist Romy Madley Croft, DJ-producer Jamie Smith told SPIN's David Marchese recently. The minimalist electro-pop group shared the album version of "Angels" a little more than a month ago, and now a stark live video has arrived that shows Madley Croft performing the song in a way that might give you some idea what that original demo must've sounded like. In a Facebook post, the band explains:
"We filmed this whilst on tour in Tokyo. We were so inspired by Tokyo and the view from Romy's hotel room on the 33rd floor, that we asked our friend Jamie-James Medina to film us recording a version of Angels in there. Love The xx""
