The Velvet Underground's classic second album, White Light/White Heat, turned 45 this year, and to commemorate the occasion, on December 10, Universal Music Enterprises will release a triple-disc "Super Deluxe Edition" of the record, which, by the way, topped SPIN's list of the Top 100 Alternative Albums of the 1960s. Burger Records is joining in the celebration as well, teaming up with Universal to release The Velvet Underground — White Light/White Heat Tribute Album, a full-length homage to the Velvets' avant-rock masterpiece. Also due on December 10, the upcoming tribute features covers by Natural Child, the Memories, Mozes and the Firstborn, Curtis Harding, Mr. Elevator & the Brain Hotel, and Gap Dream.
Over the next few days, SPIN will be premiering every single song on the White Light/White Heat tribute, beginning with Natural Child's noodling, almost-six-minute version of the album's title track.
