MGMT returned to the stage over the weekend for the first time since holing up to record their upcoming, Aphex Twin-influenced third album, the follow-up to 2010's Congratulations. Performing at Penn State University, the psych-rockers debuted a new song evidently titled "Mystery Disease," as Consequence of Sound notes. With whirring drums and heady organs, the song is no retreat to the radio-ready glam-pop of 2008's Oracular Spectacular, but it's less of a departure than their interview mentions of house music might've indicated. Then again, it's in keeping with the twitchy space-rock of the band's recent cassette-only Record Store Day single, "Alien Days," which is set to appear on the new album. Watch the new one above and enjoy the psychedelic visual projections at the back of the stage.
