SPIN profile star Bill Callahan is currently taking his new Dream River album on the road, and discovering unusual little eddies for that rolling fount of economical gravitas as he goes. Last month, the Austin-dwelling auteur and his crack band performed at the historic Sixth & I synagogue in Washington D.C., a space whose stately decor is apparently matched by its rich acoustics. How would we know? Well, fans like us (and you) can hear the set thanks to NPR, who recorded the entire thing and are streaming it in full — just shy of two hours and featuring 15 songs, including selections from 2011's Apocalypse, 2007's Woke on a Whaleheart, and 2005's A River Ain't Too Much to Love (via Smog), plus Percy Mayfield's 1950 blues ballad "Please Send Me Someone to Love." Peruse the set list below, and then head to NPR to listen to Callahan in action. You won't regret it.
