Arcade Fire’s New Song “I Give You Power” Features Mavis Staples [UPDATE]

Musician Win Butler (L) of Arcade Fire performs with singer Mavis Staples (R) at the Lands End Stage during the 2011 Outside Lands Music And Arts Festival at Golden Gate Park on August 14, 2011 in San Francisco, California.

Following months of rumblings, Canadian indie superstars Arcade Fire return this afternoon with a new single, “I Give You Power,” filled with reverberating bass, brooding organ, and a smoky vocal boost from legendary R&B singer Mavis Staples. Insider Twitter account @ArcadeFiretube teased the track as a response to the inauguration of Donald Trump, and it’s certainly possible to read lyrics like, “I give you power / Over me / I give you power / But I gotta be free” in that light, especially coming from Staples. Proceeds from the song benefit the ACLU.

Update: Although “I Give You Power” was initially promoted as a TIDAL exclusive, it’s now available on all streaming services and in relatively low 480p quality via Arcade Fire’s official YouTube channel. Hear it via your preferred service below.
