A Tribe Called Quest and Dave Grohl Will Perform Together at the Grammys

Justin Bieber, Drake, and Kanye West will probably not show up at the Grammys, but at least A Tribe Called Quest will. The group—which has been rolling as Q-Tip, sometimes-y Jarobi, Busta Rhymes, and Consequence, with producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad as a satellite presence—will reportedly perform at the ceremony with some special help from Anderson .Paak and Dave Grohl, according to Pitchfork. That’s “Dave Grohl” as in the Foo Fighters’ frontman.

.Paak had a standout guest feature on We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service and Jack White contributed some guitar noodling. There’s no word on why the crew didn’t just get White, who still has that classic bluesman’s je n’ai sais quoi despite his recent esoteric reclusiveness. But as it stands, we’re stuck with Grohl—who’s fine, but has long been the unconvincing reference point for black people who really want to convince you they do listen to rock every so often (i.e. Fall Out Boy).

The Weeknd and Daft Punk, John Legend, and Metallica are a few of the other performers set to take the Grammys stage. The ceremonies take place February 12.

UPDATE 2/2: Grohl won’t be performing with .Paak and ATCQ after all. The Recording Academy has apologized for making the announcement “prematurely.”
