Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson is thus far the breakout star of the 2014 NBA Playoffs, but definitely not for any on-court heroics. Instead, the 23-year-old drew headlines for his bizarre antics, such as blowing gently into LeBron James’ ear during a lull in the action (it even became a pretty fun meme for a few minutes).
Alas, Stephenson and the Pacers couldn’t outlast the Miami Heat, losing the Eastern Conference championship series in six games. With parting being such sweet sorrow and all, it was hard to say goodbye to Lance’s on-court craziness. As some wondered how to properly bid farewell, the people at ESPN’s Sportsnation figured out the perfect solution — have Boyz II Men come on and sing their 1991 hit “End of the Road” while playing Stephenson highlights in the background.
As far as clowning moves go, it’s pretty brilliant, but one shouldn’t overlook the quality and precisions of the trio’s a cappella rendition of the breakup classic. They’re clearly having fun with it, saying “one for you, Lance” as the studio crew applauds wildly.
BIIM are currently gearing up for the September release of their album Collide, having just released the singles “Better Half” and “Diamond Eyes.” They currently have a residency at the Mirage in Las Vegas, and on August 16, they’ll play a show after the Mets game at New York’s Citi Field. 50 Cent is also performing there, and that booking allowed him to toss out quite possibly the worst ceremonial first pitch in baseball history. So far, there hasn’t been any announcement that the Boyz will get the same honor, but it would be terrific if the Mets gave them the opportunity for another sports-related trolling.
