Arctic Monkeys‘ fifth album, the excellent AM, has proven festival-headliner prowess, but its canny hybrid of glam-burnished guitar-rock and slithery, R&B-evoking grooves doesn’t exactly scream “would sound awesome on a farm.” The latest video from the album, then, for rarely-mentioned-in-reviews space-out “One for the Road,” at first comes across as counterintuitive: Here are frontman Alex Turner, drummer Matt Helders, bassist Nick O’Malley, and guitarist Jamie Cook standing, slickly dressed, in a cornfield. Turns out the tractor that keeps showing up is being put to good use, though, as it clears a space for a fireworks-backed concert for a an ensemble of blank-eyed, similarly chic women who arrive out of nowhere. Whatever these guys had before hitting the road, it must’ve been strong stuff.
