Hear the Darkness’ Giddy, Glammy ‘Everybody Have a Good Time’

The Darkness don’t do anything halfway. When the recently reunited English hard rockers introduced their first new music in seven years, falsetto-festooned “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us,” early this year, they didn’t stop at a cartoon video involving power-pop flamingos, Stonehenge sorcerers, and a boxer-turned-soloist whose arms and legs are all guitars. Justin Hawkins and his bandmates also appeared in a Super Bowl commercial in front of 100 million people.

Of course, the Darkness wouldn’t cash in their chips there, either. Hawkins and co. are all set to open for Lady Gaga on the European leg of her world tour, and on August 21, they’ll release their third studio album, Hot Cakes — their first since 2005’s One Way Ticket to Hell… and Back — via Wind-up Records. The new single, “Everybody Have a Good Time,” is another giddy glam-rock blast, all Thin Lizzy bombast and T. Rex boogie. “Take off your thinking cap, and listen to your heart,” Hawkins implores. Let the good times roll, to characteristically hip-replacing excess.
