Dave Grohl, QOTSA’s Homme, Led Zep’s Jones Unveil Supergroup
The trio -- called Them Crooked Vultures -- will play their first-ever live show this weekend! Click here for details.
Hey, head-bangers, remember those reports about hard rock’s holy trinity — Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones — forming a new supergroup? Well, it wasn’t a ‘shroom-induced hallucination. The new power trio is called Them Crooked Vultures and they’re playing their first concert this weekend! [Via Antiquiet]
The group has been the subject of rumors since 2005 when Grohl told Mojo that his next project would feature Homme on guitar, Jones on bass, and himself on drums, and that it definitely “wouldn’t suck.”
Today, rock’s three-headed monster arrives with a seemingly official website, plus profiles on MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. Both Twitter and MySpace list band members as “Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones,” while the Facebook page links to a TimeOut Chicago story about the band’s first gig this Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Metro.
The show — a “secret” post-Lollapalooza gig — is touted with a page featuring the symbols of each member’s respective band. Tickets go on sale Aug. 6 at 10 A.M. via eTix.
Though Jones said in a recent interview that his mysterious “rock based” group would “be everywhere this summer,” no official details on a U.S. tour or album release have been announced. But, as you may remember, Homme’s wife, Spinnerette frontwoman Brody Dalle, spilled a few words on the project earlier this summer. “I’m not at liberty to talk about it,” Dalle said, “but I think [the project] is pretty fucking amazing. Just beats and sounds like you’ve never heard before.”
It’s been a busy year for Grohl. While Queens of the Stone Age have been on hiatus and Homme has been working with the Arctic Monkeys on their new release, and Led Zeppelin’s reunion plans have been scrapped, the Nirvana sticksman has been working on his band’s next album — and he even appeared as a guest judge on the TV cooking competition Top Chef.
