Wal-Mart May Loosen Policy on Explicit Albums

Wal-Mart, which has refused to carry albums with the Parental Advisory sticker since the Recording Industry Association of America introduced the label in 1985, may finally loosen its strict policy, according to reports. “In many areas of the country, Wal-Mart is the only game in town,” Paul Burgess, Executive Vice-President of TVT Records, told Spin.com. “Their entry into uncensored product will mean an increase in sales for titles that were previously only available in their stores in an edited form.”

“Clean” versions of albums will still have a spot in the marketplace, Burgess said. “Many people still want the ‘clean’ product and many parents will only buy the edited version for their kids,” he said.
