Father John Misty unveiled a surreal, seven-minute single, “The Next 20th Century.” The title track is one of two off his upcoming Chloë And The Next 20th Century.

“The Next 20th Century” initially brings a spacey, sprawling aura. Its light, searing strings invite in Tillman’s soft plea, but just a little before the halfway mark, an electric guitar invades the track. Its brief fury contrasts the track’s overall ominous, lingering creep, and only gets us excited for the new sounds of Chloë And The Next 20th Century.

Chloë And The Next 20th Century is slated for release on April 8. Tillman previously released a few of its tracks including “Funny Girl,” “Q4,” and “Goodbye Mr. Blue.” The record marks his fifth studio record, and it will release via Sub Pop and Bella Union.

Tillman’s most recent album was his 2018 God’s Favorite Customer.
