Heems, an outspoken rapper and lifelong Queens resident, tweeted on Wednesday that 20th Century Fox has bought the rights to his life story and is interested in producing a sitcom about him. The former Das Racist rapper has a penchant for balancing wit and insightful cultural criticism in his work, including his reflections on what it was like to grow up as a young Indian-American in post-9/11 America. While there’s certainly no guarantee that the Heems show will air (he still has to write the pilot and pitch it to networks, which is a big if), but he’s a pretty exciting character, especially as television gets increasingly diverse with the success of shows like Empire and Fresh Off the Boat.
Hey! So… 20th Century Fox bought my story rights for a potential sitcom. Thought I’d let my fans know.
