Spoon’s followup to the 2014 gem They Want My Soul carries the endearingly doofy title Hot Thoughts, and will be released in March. As Consequence of Sound notes, the band announced the title and floated the date March 17 during a recent appearance on the Sirius/XM show Debatable.
The Austin rock’n’roll lifers teased a new album in December, updating their social media profiles with a pale image of a skull that might end up as the album cover. Matador Records, which released Spoon’s earliest records, also published the image, hinting that the band might be returning to its first label.
On Debatable, the hosts mentioned the title Hot Thoughts and asked Spoon when the album is coming out. One member said “March 17” before frontman Britt Daniel interrupted to say that the band doesn’t know when it will be released. Spoon also revealed that they will be playing South by Southwest in their hometown of Austin the same month. (You can listen to their appearance via the fan Tumblr Fuck Yeah Spoon.)
In their two-decade career, Spoon have basically never released a bad album, and at this point it’s pretty safe to assume Hot Thoughts will be another winner. We’ve reached out to a Matador representative to confirm the title and date.
