The two members of Philadelphia duo PINKWASH, longtime friends Joey Doubek and Ashley Arnwine, have been creating together for the better part of a decade, taking the time to create a personal brand of rampaging punk rock. After 2013’s promising EP Your Cure Your Soil, the band is set to return with their debut full-length Collective Sigh, out May 13 via Don Giovanni Records.
While following a similarly rage-laden pattern to their previous releases, Sigh‘s lead single “Longer Now” takes the prog-rock formula to a new, raucous thrum. Buzzing, maxed-out chords make way for punishing drums, but Doubek’s urgent — yet still careful — vocals don’t get lost in this storm: He holds court over the seemingly unstoppable back track, asking, “Is it longer, is it longer now?”
