The Apollo 11 command module, the Hope Diamond, the Lansdowne portrait of George Washington… and Slayer. All of these things are now in the Smithsonian.

The pioneering trash metal band is the latest group to be inducted into the venerable institution in the form of a new min-documentary, Slayer and the Origins of Thrash. The short film is part of the Smithsonian’s Places of Musical Innovation, series and features band members Tom Araya, Kerry King, Paul Bostaph and Gary Holt discussing Slayer’s history and trash metal as a genre. Watch it here, and congrats to Slayer for officially becoming part of history.
